Carl and I began practicing Sabbath after our wedding in 2007. We committed to setting aside one day each week for rest. In 2008, I wrote a poem about the experience of Sabbath keeping. The poem “Exodus 20:8″ was a runner-up in the Charlotte Newberger Prize for Poetry sponsored by Lilith Magazine. Alicia Ostriker, one of my favorite poets, served as the judge.
